Exploring Marblehead's Diverse History

Phillace Unknown

Phillis, Phillace Palmer

Status (enslaved, free or both): enslaved

Known dates: 1750

John Palmer’s (~1724-1750) 1750 probate estate inventory contains an entry for “Negro Girl Phillace,” valued at 20 pounds. Palmer’s widow, Susannah, continued to enslave the second enslaved woman listed in Palmer’s inventory, so it is possible Phillace stayed with Susannah or perhaps went with one of Palmer’s children.
