On page 4 of the February 12, 1831 issue of William Lloyd Garrison’s The Liberator newspaper is an obituary to a 115-year-old-woman named Flora. Born in Africa, the obituary recounts her kidnapping by slave traders and her ordeals before arriving in Marblehead in 1748. She was enslaved by an unnamed Marbleheader. She married three times and had 5 children before moving to Lynn.
